Indigenous Education and Hands-On Learning
Our On-Going Commitment
Since receiving our gifted Indigenous name of ‘Yukembruk Place’ during the 2020 NAIDOC Week celebrations, Cooleman Court has made an ongoing commitment towards integrating Indigenous education and hands-on learning experiences throughout the centre’s activities.
By being a central community hub, Cooleman Court has the wonderful opportunity to be a platform in sharing the rich Indigenous history and culture with our engaged and knowledge-thirsty community.
Through the wisdom and guidance provided to us by Adam Shipp of Yurbay Consultancies, Cooleman Court has forged ongoing working relationships with a range of local Indigenous groups, most notably Aaron Chatfield from Dreamtime Connections. From these connections Cooleman Court has rolled out various hands-on educational programs since 2021, including:
🌿 Animal Weaving - Culture on the Move
🌿 Wattleseed Damper Making - Dreamtime Connections
🌿 Cultural Workshops - Dreamtime Connections
🌿 Dreamtime Stories - Dreamtime Connections
The commitment towards integrating Indigenous education and hands-on learning experiences throughout Coolo's activities is ongoing and we are excited to be able to facilitate future experiences for our community.
